Over the past three weeks, I accompanied a friend experiencing homelessness as he tried to follow up on treatment prescribed after an emergency visit at Dignity Hospital. He does not currently have health insurance, but he does have a Social Security Number and a California birth certificate. From the outside, this seemed like it should be enough to continue basic care. In practice, the process turned out to be much more complicated. Moving between the Wellesley Clinic and Avita Pharmacy felt less like a medical follow-up and more like navigating a maze. Small uncertainties at check-in, questions about documentation, and communication gaps between systems created repeated delays. Each step required energy and persistence that many vulnerable patients simply do not have. Throughout this time, staff members were generally kind and respectful. There is compassion in the building. But there is also hesitation, moments where procedures seemed unclear, or where patients waited while employees checked their phones or searched for the next step in the system. Watching this process from the position of someone accompanying another person felt similar to what many families experience when helping an older relative navigate healthcare: you try to stay patient, you try to understand the system, and you keep moving from desk to desk hoping the next conversation will unlock the situation. Three weeks is a long time when someone is waiting for medication after an emergency hospital visit. The Wellesley Clinic and Avita Pharmacy play an essential role for the Skid Row community. Improving coordination between departments and simplifying access for patients without insurance but with valid identification would make a meaningful difference for people who already face many barriers to care.

They are pretty rude when you call but to your face I guess they were ok. They take forever to fill prescriptions & they don't do narcotics!!

The medication I purchased from here was of outstanding quality. It was a pain reliever that was successful. Plus, the pharmacist was so friendly and welcoming. To all my mates, I would recommend this place.
