It's a busy place, the hours aren't great for working people and parking can be difficult. That said, the people that staff the pharmacy have been helpful, kind and courteous. They treat people courteously whether they are difficult or not and that can be a challenge Hospital administration needs to look at the pharmacy and work to make it more user friendly. I need to use this pharmacy because CVS won't stock two of the medications I need.

MGH Outpatient Pharmacy is completely unreliable. They barely pick up their phones, making it nearly impossible to get any information about prescriptions. Their weekend hours are ridiculous—completely closed, as if people don’t need life-saving medications on Saturdays and Sundays. Their checkout process is a disaster, with long wait times and disorganization. They desperately need more pharmacy technicians and better managers who actually understand how to run a pharmacy efficiently. If you value your time and health, take your business elsewhere.

This pharmacy is absolutely horrible. If I could leave a negative rating, I would. I often call a week in advance to try and avoid the issues this pharmacy causes me, to no avail. I called yesterday, and the tech, Geraldine, told me 4 out of my 5 scripts would be filled by end of day. I also received a phone call from the pharmacy alerting me that the prescriptions were ready to be picked up, so I bussed 1.5 hours into Boston, only to be told by management that only ONE of the scripts was ready — another would be ready Wednesday, while the other 2 would be ready on Sunday the 25th. I asked the manager how it was possible for a tech to tell me 4/5 of my scripts would be ready to be picked up that day, when only one of them was actually due to be refilled. The manager responded by not answering my question at all, rather saying “Why don’t you come back on the 25th? They’ll all be ready by then.” This is not the first time (or second, third, or even fourth time) I have been told a) an incorrect date for when my scripts are set to refill or b) received a phone call from the pharmacy telling me a certain prescription was ready, only to arrive via bus 1.5 hours after leaving work to find out that the prescription is not ready and to wait while they fill it (minimum of an additional 45 minutes, even though they have 5 open windows, they only staff, at max, 2 employees working the windows at a time). I called again today and asked to speak with management, asking to fill the prescription management on Tuesday told me would be good to go on Wednesday. This manager, Mark, told me that the script in question actually wouldn’t be able to be filled until Thursday. So I was told by a tech (the techs and pharmacists are completely useless, and, quite frankly, so is management) my script was due to fill on Tues, I was told by a manager that the script couldn’t be filled until Weds, then on Weds, I was told by a different manager that this script couldn’t be filled until Thurs. This pharmacy frequently either gives me incorrect dates that my prescriptions are able to be filled or, worse, calls me to let me know the prescription is ready to be picked up, only to arrive 5-6 hours after receiving this call to find out the prescription in question hasn’t even been filled yet and to wait an additional (minimum) 45 minutes. I asked Mark, a manager, if there is any accountability amongst his staff and if there was any way I could lodge multiple complaints against this pharmacy for their utter incompetence. He basically told me if I don’t like the service, I can take my business elsewhere (which I literally can’t do because of my health insurance plan). Overall, the techs/pharmacists are completely useless, management doesn’t care at all about the customers and there is no accountability anywhere to be seen at any level (tech, pharmacist, management). This is absolutely shameful for a pharmacy associated with the MGH brand. MGH should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for running their pharmacy this way, especially as many of their clientele (including myself) has to bus long hours to/from Boston.

I just got a call saying my prescription was ready. The problem is, I’ve never used this pharmacy. So I tried to call. The phone was answered, and I was given no opportunity to say anything. All I heard was, “Brigham and women’s outpatient pharmacy, please hold, click.” Straight to bad holding music. After holding for 15 minutes I hung up. Useless patient service.

They say there is a mail order pharmacy option. I have been told 4 or 5 different things, and each attempt prove the last direction wrong. The last was I has to request this when I called in a refill. The refill line is automated and does not offer this option. 😕 Other than this run around, the staff are efficient, professional, and helpful. This seems like system issue. Or, in reality, there really is no mail order option. Feel free to lmk.
